Pull my Finger !

One of two strange things that kept my relationship alive with my father during the difficult teen years. The other is more bizarre.

My departed father used to play this age-old trick on me as a young boy … Which I dutifully did … and you know the rest. He would fart and we would laugh.

It continued right up until my late teens.

During those difficult teen years, when we didn’t always see eye to eye — it was one thing that broke the ice and earned a smile, even in the most heated exchanges concerning the ‘rubbish’ we argued about.

“Pull my finger.”

“Daaad, I know what you're going to do”.

“I won’t this time, I promise…seriously … I promise”.

I pull his finger.

VRRRRRTTT!! hahahaha.

Every time.

Another was walking down the passage at home.

If I walked down the passage and he was coming towards me, it was “open season” — no quarter was given and only one rule applied — ONLY an arm or leg punch was acceptable plus shoving. As a preteen, I had watched him go-at-it with his father, too.
