True Fiction — #1. Short Novella by UVEBRUCE
Once Upon a Time, a Balloon Landed in Bergamo
Every tale starts with a modicum of truth, this is no exception.
It was coming to the end of another Italian language class. Magi looked back at me and simply said —
CEEERTO!
She liked to say, Certo. It was a private joke for those occasions when nothing is certain. And in our language classes, there was a lot of uncertainty. Albanian Magi also looked back at me because she liked to copy my work. She would give me holiday tips about Albania, but all the while she was sussing my work out, making sure she had the correct answers.
Signora Cristina who you may have met in a previous story, our fun-loving, foodie obsessed, Italian language teacher, lowered her voice to tell us this amazing absolutely true, author-modified story that day.
Her best friend Signora Sophia had hosted a party at her parent’s home in Città Alta, Bergamo a year ago.
To get to the home in the “Upper Town”, you must first travel up the sheer, steep mountainside on the Funicolare built in 1887, this ancient cable car wheezes and chugs its way from new Bergamo to the ancient “Città Alta”.
