My response input:-
Re: police story. It was funny and fantastic reading enjoyment for me. I love reading true comedy, rather than “two guys walked into a bar” type ‘skits’ that are made up.
I think humour is suffering generally though. Perhaps it’s the subjective nature of it. But I’m noticing even the humour writers who have historically done well, are not doing as well as previously in claps and comments.
I don’t kill it in humour because my writing is risqué, I know I’ve lost a lot of followers as a result. But yours is ‘clean’ humour and should feature highly.
And I don’t do the big heading; hook sub heading line and punchy first para “rule” that USA readers aspire to. Mine are a bit more “ambiguous”. And perhaps not all that funny … 😂 😆
And anything Trump or American, tends to trend better. Most of the members of Medium are USA based, it would be good to have a distinctly non usa humour publication.
But it may struggle if Americans don’t support it. 😂
I’ve thought of putting USA in every heading …
And I think volume is a factor. I don’t follow a huge number of writers, but I do read many writers who I’m not following as well. Plus the ones I follow, and I’m struggling to keep up with the volume.
But mostly your writing is top notch in my opinion and deserving of the support it garners. Let me just say that straight up.
One more thing. In the past two months I’ve had the most new followers join me on my quest. And so many backstories are being read, but my comments are generally coming from the same few suspects. Time and time again.
I had 16 new followers last week, and a few subscribers, I forget exactly how many. For me, that is a lot of new followers, and it’s been like that for 2 months … but my reads and comments has not really changed all that much.
And I can’t find where the new followers have clapped or commented for an unusually large percentage of them.
I can’t help feeling Medium have some sort of a glitch.
Anyway, that’s my 5 pence worth. Keep em coming Malky.
