My dad was a movie addict. You hired home movies and a 16 mm projector from local movie hire outlets. It was in Africa. We didn’t have TV then. It was the late 60’s … Every weekend we’d have 3 or 4 ‘shorts’ – one hour length reels. And a full length feature – 2 or 3 reels, fed through a massive projector and projected onto the lounge wall or a bed sheet. We often had a war or Western genre theme, (my poor mom), the shorts were varied but included – 6 million dollar man; Bewitched; Mod Squad or our family favourite – The Avengers … even my mom sat and watched that one.
I’ve never considered the role model aspect. But as you mention it, I can see it clearly. Good spot. I just loved the show and idolised Steed – mainly for his accent and stiff upper lip … a combination (for me) of Roger Moore and Peter Sellers.
Thank you for the memory.
