London Bridge is Down – RIP Your Majesty, The Queen
As I write this I am crying. It shouldn’t be a shock, but it is. At 6.30 PM local time, the Queen passed. The flag flies at half-mast. I have never known a time when my Queen has not been looking over me. She was my Sovereign.
I am pleased that her family was with her and that she died in her beloved Scotland at her most loved Balmoral.
Her legacy is that she stood for the things that brought us together, she was our constant in a topsy-turvy, ever-changing world. And she embodied service.
I was born in South Africa, but Great Britain is my home and my heart.
To the people that say, “what did she do for me, or what did she do for us”, and are negative, I say:
It is exactly that she did not do anything exceptional. That is the point of serving. Her job was to make us look good. She put us first. Her job was not to be the star, or the brand, or the hero. She was happy in her role as a quiet constant beacon to her people.
May she rest in peace.
I feel like a piece of me has died. A loved family member. She was our Queen.
The Queen is dead,
long live the King.
