It’s the case with practically everything. Take out 10% of core items from any supermarket group and it plunges into loss.
Take McDonald’s out of Coca Cola and it plunges into losses.
That’s the dynamic of almost any business relationship.
The reality is who needs who more. And in Medium’s case … I’d say it was 50/50. Writers need Medium as much as Medium needs content creators.
Let’s not forget that most of us writing on Medium do not have the skill set to market our work independently anyway. And the rest, like me, are to lazy to do much more than we already do.
Great authors have worked tirelessly to promote the work. You yourself made that point in an excellent piece (you tagged me and used me as an example) lol, and you were 💯% right.
Not many on Medium go that extra ‘Tim Denning’ mile to grow income …
Most just want to write and find some sort of outlet for that work. Once that is achieved they cocoon there until the cocoon collapses.
