I think what is actually happening is that people are consuming a more global basket, not just local, due to social media and cheap travel.
France has a much larger footprint in countries that previously didn’t stock French products.
And vice versa … and Lidl and most supermarkets make a point of ‘buying local’, and watchdogs do check the statements authenticity,
