I agree with all you say, the price extraction point especially. Using a boiled egg as a metaphor is genius.
Using the price extracted as the white of the egg is both relatable and beyond genius.
I do take issue with "brunch" (tongue in cheek) ... a boiled egg would be either breakfast or Elevenses. But never brunch. lol ... Brunch is a much grander affair I feel. It requires eggs and other things, always.
And as an aside, the Germans may have the perfect dish for you. It may ruin the metaphor though,.
They serve a dish, translated, "Eggs in a glass" ... the softest poached eggs known to man, that have to be served in a glass, because they are JUST poached. The softness is like velvet and the whites are far more manageable due to the cooking process.
It is served with great toast.
