Great read. A subject (incredibly), not tackled all that much by Medium writers - and it should be.
The only stat. I want, is exactly who stopped following, and why. Especially email subscribers.
From that I can ignore; learn; adjust as needed; and benefit.
The rest is smoke and mirrors.
I find it uncanny that 99% of comments are positive. Having been subject to reviews like TripAdvisor, etc. for my business, 99% positive is unattainable.
So somebody is “stretching the truth”.
I used to clap honestly. Below 10 - I didn’t love it. Below 30 - it was readable. Above 30, I enjoyed it. 50 - it was brilliant.
But somebody posted a piece about claps, and I changed. I now give 50, if I read.
If I don’t comment, I have nothing to say, OR … I didn’t enjoy the piece.
If I highlight. Something you’ve said is worth noting. Or I liked it.
If I comment - you’ve earned my time.
I really would prefer to know why people left. Or why you didn’t like a piece. It’s why we are here isn’t it.?
To learn. To grow. To be better.
But I guess that’s asking too much. Nobody wants the confrontation, I guess.
