God Save the King Charles
Out with the Corgis — they have been banished to Andrew’s house. The horses — all sold. And we stare at the new king, familiar and yet in his new role, so unfamiliar.
The King Charles Spaniel stands a mere 13 inches high, ideally. And that perhaps personified the new United Kingdom. It is a very small country. At least the Corgi was known as an aggressive ‘snappy’ dog. Not great around children, aka, the new Sovereign States of the world. Queen Corgi was not to be trifled with.

our new King has no really distinctive quality, other than patience and a dogged determination to wait for his entitled position in the FIRM. Elizabeth arrived tragically to be our Queen … helped by her role in the war effort. Charles arrived by deceit and succession-normalcy. It was all a very sad but genteel affair. It was expected. Laws were changed to accommodate his chosen Queen, it’s all a bit (quietly) absurd.
It’s all happening over there. Not here.
We feel disconnected. Change is often like that. A bit strange and difficult to accept, and then it grows on you. Only I do not think this king will grow on us. We know him. We grew up with him, and he has been a…
