“Mr. Nupin, before I sentence you is there anything you wish to say or add to your case in mitigation?”

“Not a word Judge. Not a single word now, but I would like to make a short statement after you sentence me,” Nupin responded.

“You’ve been well-mannered throughout your hearing Mr. Nupin, and remained so following your conviction and pre-sentencing report so I will allow it, but I reserve the right to cut you short or add to your sentence if you say or do anything that I find goes against the stated objectives of my courtroom. Is that clear?” Judge Layman stated.

“Crystal, Your Honour,” Nupin responded. He glanced at his counsel and noticed that Counsel had also noted the Judge’s remark about adding to his sentence. Was there a slither of hope he would not get the death penalty?

“Very well Mr. Nupin, please stand.”

A short pause as the guilty party and Counsel stand. You could hear a pin drop in the room.

“Mr. Nupin, this Court finds you guilty of First Degree murder with aggravated circumstances done with a degree of planning on your part for the reasons given earlier before the break for lunch.
