A boy who became a man … in a flash! Meet Cameron Herrin —
He killed two people …! The system threw away the keys to the life of this boy. He should have been tried as a minor** for his mistake — the Judge saw fit to try him as a man. Why?
** I originally said minor, I revisited the Judges sentencing speech and it should be youthful offender.
It highlights the penal and justice system and how outdated it is. How UNFIT for purpose it really is.
The Judge is plain wrong. The deciding factor of whether this is an adult or juvenile matter must lie at the door of INTENT. Was it a child driving recklessly who made a stupid JUVENILE mistake … or an individual with an adult mentality carrying out an intended act of premeditated MURDER. That is the door that this case must walk through or fall at.
And even in the Judge’s own words during his summation, he accepts it was an accident and pins his decision NOT to give the maximum sentence on that fact but equally makes the decision to try Cameron as an adult on the SEVERITY of the mistake. Wrong! …JUST PLAIN WRONG!!
